Hello,
Welcome to the SadServers newsletter, featuring new hands-on challenges to help you build and strengthen your Linux and DevOps skills.
New scenarios since the last newsletter:
- "Verona": Apache Portal Won't Open - Apache is still around and this is an scenario where you can practice general troubleshooting.
- "Modena": Ansible Deploy Won't Publish - Our first Ansible challenge, which needs Internet so it's only offered to paid accounts.
- "Parma": Debugging Terraform Issues - Continuing the idea of adding more DevOps scenarios, this is our first Terraform challenge.
- "Bologna": counting ELB 5xx errors - Similar to our popular Saskatoon scenario where you have to parse an Nginx log to count IP addresses, in this challenge you need to count HTTP 500 errors from an AWS ELB log, another fairly popular type of task in job interviews.
- "Genova": cgroups problem - Control groups (cgroups) can be used outside Docker containers; here's a little challenge showing that.
- "Montevideo": restore test snapshot would clobber production - Linux Sysadmins need to know how inodes and hard links work; this scenario presents a fairly realistic backup restore task.
- "Ravenna": Logs Missing in ELK Pipeline - Observability is a huge part of DevOps/SRE. Athough there are more modern alternatives, ElasticSearch with its ELK stack is very popular and hard to master. Here we introduce an app logging to Filebeat - Logstash - ElasticSearch (no Kibana dashboard) scenario. The resources needed by all these components demand a big expensive server, so this scenario requires a paid (Pro/Pro+/Business) account.
New section:
- We've launched a new Labs section featuring introductions to some of the most popular server technologies, along with troubleshooting guides and cheat sheets. Each lab is paired with hands-on SadServers scenarios, and we plan to expand the collection to cover most of the standard Linux, DevOps, and SRE tools.
If your company is interviewing for Linux/DevOps/SRE or similar positions, you may be interested in ourĀ Business solutions, contact us for any questions.
